Great news! Tandy Cavies have won the RVCC Teddy Points for 2008 Cup and the Margaret Elward Trophy.
We are a very small stud concentrating on the Teddy breed of cavy. The majority of my foundation stock came over from Denmark, from Asterex Stud, in 2006.
Generally I don't put individuals' placings/wins on my website but just to say that 3 Rare Variety Cavy Club Champions were registered in 2008 - firstly, Tandy Cavies Mellissa, then Tandy Cavies Cute Cara and Tandy Cavies Tinkerbell. More potential championships being worked on of course, with Tandy Cavies Chi Chi and a few others doing extremely well. Due to being extremely busy with other things at the moment, I probably won't be showing during the first half of 2009 but should be back showing again later in the year.
The welfare and happiness of our cavies whilst in our care is paramount. Every single day, they are all given a good variety of vegetables, grass and sometimes just a little fruit as well. Hay and water is available 24/7. All of this is essential for their long-term health. Most of live in pairs in 4ft x 2ft (8sq ft) hutches or larger, some are in hutch/run combos and all others having their turns out on the lawn in the runs when the weather is decent!
Tandy Cavies are only a very small stud and I only breed with the aim of breeding cavies that I want to keep, but just occasionally we may have cavy pups available and older piggies to quality homes only. We are located in the South West of England (near Bristol and the M4/M5 interchange)

It is important that Teddy and Rex type coats are combed at least once a week to remove any hay seeds that become lodged in their skin. It can also be beneficial to bath regularly in using an anti-parasitic and anti-dandruff shampoo. I recommend a standard plastic comb and/or the a small size soft wire slicker brush.
